What is a Butterfly Valve?

A butterfly valve is a solution that can control the flow of gases, liquids or powders. This is done by means of a disc that is partially or completely closed. The valve makes a turn so that a pipe can be closed or opened in a quick way. Because the butterfly valve contains few parts, there are low maintenance costs. A butterfly valve is easy to attach and has a small installation size. They are available in various materials such as stainless steel, cast iron and bronze.

A distinction is made between centric and eccentric bearing-mounted valves. With the centric butterfly valve, the spindle is in the center of the seat and therefore in the center of the pipe. The valve makes a 90 degree turn. The eccentric butterfly valve has several axes off-center. Butterfly valves can be operated electrically, pneumatically, via a gearbox or manually and are available in various sizes.
